The most common treatments for prostate enlargement are:

- Medications
- Surgery
- Thermotherapy (CoreTherm®)

The different treatment methods have advantages and disadvantages that you should consider and discuss with your patient. The best solution may be to monitor the patient and his problem for a while to see if treatment is necessary. Some BPH patients improve without treatment. It is also important to point out that BPH treatments can cause loss of fertility.

Why is CoreTherm® the preferred therapy for prostate enlargement?
ProstaLund has developed a unique patented method for measuring the actual temperature in the prostate during therapy. CoreTherm® is a therapy that is adapted according to the needs of the individual patient to treat benign prostate enlargement using microwaves. It is a tried and tested method that has become a popular alternative to surgery (TURP) or the use of medications to treat symptoms.

The information below tells you more about the many advantages of a therapy that is well established, adaptable to individual patient needs, effective and easy to perform and undergo compared to the available alternatives.

CoreTherm® – the new wave of thermotherapy
CoreTherm® uses microwaves with exact thermoregulation. The temperature in the prostate is recorded continuously.

CoreTherm® microwave thermotherapy is delivered, monitored and regulated using a small portable device. Therapy is administered using a transurethral catheter containing a microwave antenna and an intraprostatic temperature sensor. The volume of the prostate is reduced by heat and coagulation generated by microwaves emitted by the antenna.

CoreTherm® uses microwaves with exact thermoregulation. The temperature in the prostate is recorded continuously. The microwave power can be regulated exactly to adjust the treatment to achieve the desired amount of prostatic tissue reduction.

Therapy is continued until the desired therapeutic effect is achieved, normally after 10-30 minutes (depending on treatment regime). The patient can go home directly after the procedure.

Rapid acceptance of a faster method
More than 20,000 patients hav

e been treated using CoreTherm® since 1999. The treatment only takes a short time, normally 10-15 minutes. The patient can go home directly after the procedure.

EAU and AUA guidelines state that transurethral microwave thermotherapies provide significant subjective and objective improvements with long-term treatment outcome stability. With regard to non-surgical procedures it has been determined that transurethral microwave thermotherapy is the most attractive BPH treatment alternative available today.
